Since 1980 Il Torchio has the Florentine tradition of bookbinding by creating handmade products, preserving old treasures, and exploring new ideas.
Established on tradition and classic bookbinding, we continue to create 100% made in Florence items using high quality selected material, such as leather, handmade marbled paper, artistic papers and coloured canvas.
Tradition is also a source of inspiration. By reinterpreting tradition and using contemporary material and techniques, we create handmade products, balancing innovation and tradition.
Artisanal becomes design. By exploring our surroundings and by collaborating with other artisans and designers we understand, examine and create our craft.
Our workshop was established in Oltrarno, the artisans’ district of Florence. Throughout the centuries the workshops and bottegas in the streets of San Frediano, Santo Spirito and San Niccolò have advanced minor arts and artistic handicraft making the traditional Florentine craftsmanship unique and highly sought out. Today you can still find passionate artisans who pass down their knowledge from generation to generation recounting the history of our city.
In Oltrarno Il Torchio has found its place close to Ponte Vecchio – in Via dei Bardi, an historic street of Florence – where our creations take shape.
